Call it “The one with the cover charge.”
Your favorite “Friends” are coming back to New York City. Or, rather, their stuff is coming back, in a new pop-up store planned for the city’s SoHo neighborhood.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the sitcom, which premiered on Sept. 22, 1994, Superfly and Warner Bros. Television are channeling Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler and Joey by re-creating sets and costumes for an “immersive” musem-like “Friends Pop-Up Experience.”
An announcement promises fans can “stick a turkey on your head, peek through Rachel and Monica’s purple door, relax on Chandler and Joey’s recliner after playing some foosball, or help Ross with the infamous sofa pivot.”
You can even head to a re-created Central Perk for a photo of yourself on that orange couch. And there will be an opportunity to buy “Friends” merchandise, natch.
Less ‘Friends’ viewing: Actually, losing ‘Friends’ and ‘The Office’ won’t hurt Netflix
“As we celebrate the show’s milestone anniversary, we are excited to bring the ‘Friends’ experience to life for our fans in a way that pays homage to the remarkable cast of characters, iconic sets and instantly quotable moments,” said Peter van Roden, senior vice president of global themed entertainment for Warner Bros. Consumer Products, in a statement.
This isn’t the first ‘Friends’ museum: A New York re-creation of the iconic Central Perk coffee shop was open briefly in 2014 to commemorate the show’s 25th anniversary.
And for TV fans interested in a different part of town, and maybe a different vibe (not that there’s anything wrong with that), the companies will also open a temporary “Seinfeld Experience” later this fall.
The “Friends” pop-up will be open Sept. 7 to Oct. 6, every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Oh, and that cover charge? $29.50. (Info: Friends25PopUp.com.)
