Delta Air Lines is making it cheaper to travel with bikes, surfboards and other large sports gear.

The airline is eliminating its $150specialty sports bag fee, copying a move American Airlines made earlier this year.

Travelers will now pay standard Delta baggage fees for sporting equipment as long as it meets weight and size requirements. Delta charges $30 each way for the first checked bag and $40for the second.

Athletes and weekend warriors praised the move on social media.

Delta’s new policy takes effect for tickets purchased on or after July 17, meaning summer vacationers still face the higher fees unless they bought tickets last minute.

Alaska Airlines was the first carrier to eliminate oversize sports equipment fees in 2017. United Airlines eliminated its $150-$200 surfboard fee in 2018, but only on nonstop flights to and from California.
