Taco Bell is opening “The Bell” hotel and resort in Palm Springs, California for a limited time.
Taco Bell wants you to escape to a tropical “Tacoasis” this summer.
The fast-food company announced it was opening “The Bell,” a hotel and resort in Palm Springs, California, this summer, according to a press release Thursday, but details were scant for Taco Bell’s latest marketing ploy.
The Bell will open its doors for a limited time beginning Aug. 9, the release states.
The announcement appeared to catch city officials off guard, with Assistant City Manager Marcus Fuller saying Thursday morning, “At this point, we’re as surprised as everyone else. At least, I am.”
He told The Desert Sun, which is part of the USA TODAY Network, that the city reached out to Taco Bell’s parent company, Yum! Brands, for details, but were only told information would be disclosed in a June 21 news release.
Fuller said he was unaware of any permit applications that may have been filed as part of the pop-up. It’s unclear where the hotel will be and whether it’s a takeover of an existing hotel property, which seems likely given no city permits have been filed.
Taco Bell says the hotel experience will be “inspired by tacos and fueled by fans” from check-in to check-out.
“Everything from guest rooms to breakfast and poolside cocktails will be infused with a Taco Bell twist, making this the flavor-filled getaway of 2019,” the statement reads.
The hotel will also include a gift shop full of Taco Bell merchandise, an on-site salon and “new menu surprises.”
