Meet Mosasaurus, the newest scare in the upcoming Jurassic World – The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Universal Studios Hollywood
Based on a new commercial for Jurassic World – The Ride, opening this summer at Universal Studios Hollywood, guests are going to need a bigger boat.
The ad, which dropped Wednesday morning, offers the first look at the attraction’s featured beast, the Mosasaurus, an aquatic creature far larger than anything in previous “Jurassic” movies. Mosasaurus also appears in the video component of the updated ride, reports The Arizona Republic, which is part of the USA TODAY Network.
The commercial opens with a showdown of Old West gunmen, their shootout interrupted when a screaming astronaut runs through what turns out to be a movie set.
Tall trees shake violently, followed by thumping footsteps familiar to any “Jurassic Park” fan. Crews flee through the backlot before a Tyrannosaurus rex bursts though the Universal Studios arch.
But the most revealing scene comes at the end, when riders flinch as the Mosasaurus cracks against aquarium glass.
Jurassic World – The Ride is an update of Jurassic Park: The Ride, which closed in September. While the two versions are somewhat similar — both begin with a bucolic raft ride among docile dinosaurs — Jurassic World features updated technology and what is likely to be a much more impressive finale.
In the original ride, an animatronic T. rex bursts through the ceiling just as riders narrowly escape. Jurassic World climaxes with a battle between T. rex and Mosasaurus before riders plunge down an 84-foot waterfall.
Final ‘Jurassic Park’ ride: Saying goodbye to the classic Universal attraction
The updated attraction also includes a Raptor Encounter, where guests will mingle with Blue, the (semi) trained velociraptor from the film.
