Authorities are looking for a young woman who is “infatuated” with the Columbine High School shooting. She’s believed to be dangerous, made threats.
A massive manhunt is underway for the 18-year-old woman who authorities say traveled to Colorado Monday night ahead of the 20th anniversary of the mass shooting at Columbine High School and made “credible threats” against Denver-area schools.
Authorities say Sol Pais is “infatuated” with the deadly shooting on April 20, 1999, that killed 13 people. She reportedly purchased a shotgun after flying into Colorado on Monday night.
Here’s what we know about Pais:
Pais is believed to be from South Florida and live in Surfside, Florida. She traveled to Denver from Miami, authorities say.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says Pais is approximately 5’5″ in height and has brown hair. She was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, camouflage pants and black boots.
The Miami Herald says Pais was reported missing by her parents Monday night, according to the Surfside Police Department. FBI agents entered her home Tuesday evening at 8:20 p.m.
A man who answered the door of her home who identified himself as her father said he last saw her Sunday evening, according to the Herald. “I think maybe she’s got a mental problem,” he said. “I think she’s gonna be OK.”
The ABC television station in Miami said the self-identified father called the situation a “nightmare.”
Senior in high school
The Herald reported that a neighbor of the Pais family — a woman who declined to provide her name — said Pais was a senior at Miami Beach High and had taken the school bus with her son during the past school year. She characterized Pais as “to herself” and the family as “very sweet.”
‘Infatuation’ with Columbine mass shooting
Dean Phillips, special agent in charge for the FBI in Denver, said Pais has made many “concerning comments” in the past about the deadly Columbine shooting, which drew their attention. He described Pais as having an “infatuation” with the mass shooting.
‘Armed and dangerous’
Phillips said she stopped at a store and legally purchased a shotgun and ammunition after arriving in Colorado. She’s considered a “credible threat.” But law enforcement has not identified any specific threat against any school, Phillips said.
Authorities have urged people to call the FBI tipline at (303) 630-6227 if they have seen Pais or have information on her whereabouts. They caution not to approach her because she is considered “armed and dangerous.”
Pais was seen last week in the foothills west of Denver, according to law enforcement. They’ve been searching for her ever since, Phillips said.
