President Donald Trump says that he is “strongly looking at” the idea of transporting migrants to so-called sanctuary cities that don’t cooperate with federal immigration authorities. (April 12)
Who says there’s no middle ground in politics? President Trump and Cher have found an issue on which they can agree.
After President Trump said he liked the idea of transporting illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities, the singer/actress, who usually leans towards the liberal end of the political spectrum, argued that Los Angeles can’t even handle its own homeless population.
“Sanctuary city” is not a legal term but is a phrase used to describe jurisdictions – cities, counties, states – that don’t fully comply with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
“I Understand Helping struggling Immigrants but MY CITY (Los Angeles) ISNT TAKING CARE OF ITS OWN,” she wrote in a tweet Sunday. “WHAT ABOUT THE 50,000+Citizens WHO LIVE ON THE STREETS? PPL WHO LIVE BELOW POVERTY LINE,& HUNGRY? If My State Can’t Take Care of Its Own (Many are VETS), How can it Take Care Of More?”
On Monday, the president issued a tweet he probably never thought possible: “I finally agree with Cher!”
But others on Twitter didn’t quite know what to make of Cher and Trump being of like mind.
“Has Cher turned #MAGA?” wondered @RedPillWatcher.
“I’ll never forget where I was and what I was doing the moment Cher became a Republican,” @michaeljknowles joked.
