“Game of Thrones” star Kit Harington was the host of last night’s episode of “SNL” where Jason Sudeikis made a surprise appearance as Joe Biden.
After a week of late-night jokes about Joe Biden, “Saturday Night Live” took its shot.
Following the apology video posted by the former vice president earlier this week, in which he promised to be more “mindful and respectful” amid accusations of inappropriate behavior toward women, his “SNL” persona underwent sensitivity training to keep his hands to himself.
Former “SNL” cast member Jason Sudeikis returned to his old stomping grounds to reprise his impression that Biden once called “so good it scared me.”
“I’m a hugger, I’m a kisser and a little bit of a sniffer. But the last thing I want to do is offend anyone,” Sudeikis’ Biden tell his staff.
Biden’s team members (Cecily Strong and Kenan Thompson) bring in a consultant (Kate McKinnon), whom Biden quickly “connects” with by grabbing her arms and touching foreheads.
McKinnon’s character tries multiple times, to no avail, to get Biden to see the issue with his excessive touching, but Biden (who says he picked “Amtrak” to win his March Madness bracket) is having a tough time letting go of his old ways.
“That’s like telling Mario Batali to take his Crocs off,” he says.
“I wouldn’t bring him into this,” McKinnon cringes, referencing the sexual assault allegations that arose against the celebrity chef last year.
Biden agrees to practice greeting women appropriately with the help of a few potential voters. He struggles a bit with his first visitor, played by Aidy Bryant.
“Oh, I know, I should probably just cradle her face with my hands,” he thinks out loud before course-correcting. Unfortunately, his idea of a more gender-neutral greeting is putting Bryant into a headlock and calling her a “son of a (expletive).”
Cast member Leslie Jones enters next, and she has a different idea of how to greet the former vice president.
“I know who you are: You’re Obama’s granddaddy!” she cries before pulling him in for a huge hug. Satisfied with his “improvements,” Sudeikis’ Biden officially throws his hat in the ring for the upcoming election.
“Come on, America, let’s hug it out,” he says, addressing the camera directly. “Biden and some woman 2020!”
