It’s true. Kailyn Lowry does sit on the couch a lot during her scenes on “Teen Mom 2.”
Over the weekend, one of the stars of the MTV show went on a lengthy Twitter rant complaining that the show overlooks her accomplishments and focuses on scenes that depict her as a “bitter baby mama.” Specifically, Lowry, 27, called out producers for frequently featuring her talking about the fathers of her kids. She also alleged producers suggested she do a boudoir shoot for the show’s finale.
This week, she discussed the behind-the-scenes drama with USA TODAY.
For starters, the boudoir suggestion had no context, she said.
“That was my whole argument. It just didn’t make sense. And I didn’t agree it was best for my season finale.”
On her Twitter thread, Lowry said she’s made mistakes, but she has positive things that MTV can film, but doesn’t.
“I haven’t always made good choices. But I’m getting my (expletive) together. Started my company. Own a house, building another,” she wrote. “Mtv calls me up to discuss season finale after not filming my house stuff or my surprise party they knew about for a month Talkin bout they want me to do a boudoir shoot as the season finale. .. I’m only valued for getting (expletive) naked??????”
Lowry has three sons. She shares Isaac, 9, Lincoln, 5, and Lux, 19 months, with exes Jo Rivera, Javi Marroquin and Chris Lopez, respectively.
Much of her on-screen time, she argued, is captured on the couch talking about her relationship with the three dads.
“I don’t ever sit on my couch & talk about my baby dads at much as I do when MTV is asking. I feel like that’s such a smack in the face,” she wrote. She ended her Twitter thread by asking, “At what point can I stop being portrayed as a bitter baby mama?” (She has since deleted that message.)
Lowry told USA TODAY that building her first house, alone, has plenty of drama. Lowry lives in Delaware and the 6-bedroom house sits on a 2-acre lot and should be completed by March of next year.
“I am definitely struggling with it and I have cried a lot over it and they are not pushing to film any of it,” she said. “And I’m proud of myself. At the end of the day, I am building a house by myself. This is something I couldn’t make work with any of my kids’ dads and this is a huge milestone that I’m taking on alone. Right there — that is TV gold. And to tell the truth, it’s a little bit heartbreaking for me.”
MTV declined to comment on Lowry’s complaints about the show.
