“3-2-1, It’s show time.”
And with that countdown, Apple invited the media to another “special event,” to be held March 25 at the Steve Jobs Theater on the company’s Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California.
The speculation this time around surrounds Apple’s long-expected streaming service, as it makes a further push into digital services and potentially plays catchup to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.
Citing unnamed people said to be familiar with the plan, Bloomberg recently reported that a number of Hollywood stars could be in attendance at just such an event, including Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner and director J.J. Abrams.
Like its rivals in the entertainment space, Apple has been developing original series, and last June, announced a multi-year deal with Oprah Winfrey, while remaining mum on the details of that partnership.
There might well be a hook into Apple News as well, with the company rumored to be expanding the platform with perhaps a fresh subscription offering.
It’s also possible that Apple will unveil new hardware at the event. Apple has traditionally brought out new iPads in March, and the next version of AirPods – long overdue – might make an appearance. So might another product that seems late to the party, the previously announced AirPower wireless charging pad that can be used to simultaneously juice up an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods, and help reduce cable clutter.
