Giants general manager Dave Gettleman has some history when it comes to marquee defensive backs and free agency, and Josh Norman certainly remembers.
After Landon Collins reportedly agreed to a massive contract to stay in the NFC East with the Redskins, the Washington corner trolled Gettleman on Twitter for not only allowing Collins to join the Redskins, but for getting another free agent a big payday.
Gettleman famously rescinded Norman’s franchise tag with the Panthers when Gettleman was calling the shots in Carolina. It ended up benefiting the Redskins once more, with Norman signing a five-year, $75 million ticket in 2016.
Norman was coming off of a sensational season in which he was named first-team All-Pro while helping the Panthers reach the Super Bowl. The 31-year-old has six picks in his three season with the Redskins in 45 starts.
Washington will boast one of the priciest secondaries in football with the addition of Collins. Factoring in Collins’ move from a NFC East rival along with the tumultuous history between Norman and Odell Beckham Jr., the two meetings between the Redskins and Giants should be must-watch television in 2019.
