Former Miss Teen Universe Lotte Van Der Zee died at age 19 after suffering “sudden cardiac arrest” last month, her parents confirmed on social media.

The Dutch model, who won her international title in 2017, died shortly before her 20th birthday.

While on a trip to Austria two weeks ago with her family, “Lotte started to feel unwell throughout the course of the afternoon,” parents Bert Van Der Zee and Eugeniek Van Het Hul said on Instagram. “A feeling that swiftly escalated in sudden cardiac arrest. She was helped to the nearest hospital where she got into a coma.”

She was later transferred to another hospital in Munich, but by Wednesday evening, the parents confirmed Van Der Zee died.

“Our pearl, our everything passed away on Wednesday evening March 6th at 22:47,” they wrote, sharing the message on the model’s official Instagram account. “It is incredibly surreal that our dearly beloved Lotte is not around us anymore. Our hearts are truly broken.”
