A private jet with Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and other friends aboard was forced to make a dramatic emergency landing at Ontario International Airport Friday.
A person familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak publicly about it confirmed to USA TODAY that the “Friends” co-stars were on the flight headed for Cabo, Mexico. TMZ reported that the trip was a surprise from Aniston’s friends for her 50th birthday.
The Federal Aviation Association confirms, in a statement to USA TODAY, that the Gulfstream G4, with 10 passengers, lost a wheel or tire while departing from Los Angeles International Airport on its way to Cabo San Lucas Friday.
The aircraft circled Ontario International Airport, south of Los Angeles, for three hours to burn highly-flammable fuel before attempting the emergency landing on the rain-covered runway.
Local news stations, such as the Fox affiliate, went live to cover the landing as local fire trucks and emergency crew were rushed out to the runway. The jet made a slightly shaky but successful landing just after 2 p.m.
Aniston’s plans weren’t terribly thrown by the unexpected delay, however. She and her party departed their plane and walked across the rain-swept runway to another waiting private jet, with their luggage carried over. At 4:20 the new plane taxied towards the runway and made a clean take-up five minutes later.
Aniston celebrated her 50th birthday last weekend with a glamorous party which brought Reese Witherspoon, Ellen DeGeneres, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr.
