A lottery winner claimed a prize worth more than $1.1 million while wearing a mask that looks like the Ghostface character from the 1996 horror film “Scream,” according to a Jamaican gambling company.
A lottery winner referred to as “A. Campbell” claimed the prize on Feb. 5, according to social media posts by Supreme Ventures Ltd.
“It took him 54 days to come forward and we started to get nervous, but we forgive him. After all, we’d probably feel queasy too after realizing we won!” an Instagram post from last week says.
Lottery winners claiming prizes in disguises to protect their privacy is a trend in some countries, the Washington Post reports. The publication reports that a Jamaican woman previously claimed a large prize dressed as an emoji.
The Jamaica Star reported in June 2018 the trend has been motivated by some winners who feared for their safety due to crime.
The man purchased the winning ticket in Kingston, Jamaica, Caribbean news site the Loop reports. The man plans to use the money to buy a house, the site says.
Supreme Ventures posted numerous photos of the winner in his costume to social media:
